freedom

in a strange world
where love's often hidden behind fear
when gentle often recoils from brash
she comes and conquers hearts
like a promise of hope and dreams
like a soft warm breeze in summer
caressing, giving life, breathing wonder
like freedom.

in a troubled world
where truth's often blinded by lies
when tender's often seen as weak
she comes with her sweet smile
like so many offerings of change
like the first warm rains of spring
cleansing, purifying, renewing
like freedom.

so she wants freedom
this gentle tender rare woman-child
so she desires tranquility and stability
while she plays in the shadows of indulgence
while she clamors for her liberty
and embraces pride beyond redemption
this wistful woman, this confirming child, this wonder
freedom.

Peter, nicely done. Your poem is rich in vision and has opened me in this way. I leave poems behind, the results of my reading. A blogger friend once called me Johnny Applepoem. I have been doing this for 18 months now. I spin off rather than reply directly so I don't mean anything by it, except that I love poetry, yours and the gift God gives me of mine. I will no longer leave them if you choose.

By the way, your music really helps. It too is well chosen.

With My Wand

If I could, I would
turn you into your freedom,
soaring like ospreys.
I am willing now,
willing to gift you with lift
like the running cat,
or the hart mid-leap.

I would craze the glass, shatter
the bonds that hold you,
by grace release you
from the gravity of all
the old illusions.

I read this the first night you posted it and since then I've read it several times over. I am simply taken back and not even sure if I could come up with a comment that would suffice for such an incredible poem you have laid out here.

You never fail to outdo yourself with every write you present on Fragments. :-)

You know I'm your biggest fan! I want an autograph. :p

By the way - I love the new songs. Wow. (But Blue October isn't working... just an FYI.) :/

Maybe it is because it has been so long since I've been over here, but I think it is more that you've really outdone yourself with this one. You've painted a perfect image of yin/yang and the young beauty who is becoming...
I really like this one and it could address so many aspects of life. Thanks for an enjoyable read.
